REPRESENTATION IS KEY

I was recently honored to shoot Lily's senior portraits in advance of her upcoming graduation from the California Maritime Academy, a Cal Poly institution. She had the brilliant idea to do the photoshoot with the iconic Queen Mary in the background. While we were shooting, I asked Lily how she decided to become a ship captain. She shared that when she was about 8 or 9 years old, she went on a cruise with her family, and enjoyed participating in the kids club activities abord the ship. So much so, that she thought she would like to work as a kids club counselor on a ship one day. As she got older, he ideas of working on a ship grew and one day she saw a tik tok of a young woman who had become a ship's captain. Lily's eyes were opened to the possibility that she too could one day pilot large ships. In a field largely dominated by men, it was significant for Lily to see a young woman like herself in such a role. Congratulations Lily!
